Meet in person
The first session is considered the intake session. At this time, we will review the intake packet which you should fill out prior to the session. You will have an opportunity to get to know me and I will get a better understanding of your concerns.  At the end of the first session we will decide on a regular time to meet on a weekly or twice a week basis.

Contact your insurance company

I accept Blue Cross & Blue Shield and CIGNA behavioral health insurance plans. You must contact your insurance company to verify that you are eligible to receive behavioral health benefits and in some cases you may be required to receive "pre-authorization" from your insurance company to start services.

I am an out-of-network provider for most other insurance companies. Providing out-of-network services is a simple process. The first step is to contact your insurance company and inquire about your mental health "out-of-network benefits". Generally, insurance companies can reimburse anywhere from 50% to 80% percent depending on your plan and deductible. At the time of service, you will be responsible to pay the full fee for the treatment received and you will be provided with a receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Your insurance carrier will process your claim, just like they would for a medical claim. If they have any questions about authorization of services, please feel free to have them contact me directly.

Parents of children under 18 years old

Timothy's Law was enacted on January 1st, 2007 and provides greater mental health parity in insurance coverage for everyone, but especially for kids. Children under 18 years of age in New York State with significant emotional and behavioral issues (e.g. Oppositional Defiance, Anxiety, Depressive Disorders, self-cutting, etc.) are eligible for the same exact coverage their insurance provides them for their medical benefits. Your fee for seeing a child psychologist should be the same as it is for seeing any physician or medical specialist, which is generally the amount of your co-pay.

Mental Health Parity Law

The Mental Health Parity law, which took effect on January 1, 2010, mandates that psychotherapy benefits be equal to other medical coverage, with no arbitrary limits or separate deductibles. This law applies to both in-network and out-of-network psychotherapy benefits, and may mean that your psychotherapy benefits are now better than they were previously.
